First things first, let me start this post with “Nutella is ❤”.
Any snack with Nutella is a sure hit, not only with the kids but also with the kids-at-heart, and we have half a jar in the fridge that’s about to expire. Yikes! No-no-no-no, that cannot be but using it as a spread over and over again can get quite boring. I know there a lot of available recipes using Nutella but I’m lazy. I can’t be bothered with super complicated procedures and expensive ingredients. Plus, it’s the middle of the night, so going out to buy ingredients is out of the question. So the next best thing for me is to rummage through the cupboards and fridge to see what I could unearth. And this is what I got.
Nutella (of course), breadcrumbs, a lone egg, flour, and about to go stale bread. I was actually saving that breadcrumbs for chicken nuggets, but what the heck! The baby finally sleeps and I’m hungry.
Start by flattening the bread one by one with a rolling pin or, if you’re like who doesn’t have one, you can use a smooth bottle or tall glass. You can cut the crust out or leave it as is. I like the crust so I left it alone.
Spread Nutella on the top layer of each bread, except for the last one then stack them up on each other. Looks so yummy already, but don’t give in to the temptation.
Now, cut the Nutella sandwich into cubes.
Prepare your ingredients for the coating. Beat the egg and add cinnamon to the flour or egg (whichever works for you).
Coat the Nutella cubes with flour first then dunk them into the beaten egg. Next, roll them in the breadcrumbs and they’re ready to fry.
Pro tip: You can use a bigger bowl to coat multiple sandwich cubes with flour. Just place them all in the bowl, give it a swirl, and toss them lightly until fully coated. Just make sure that the cubes don’t come apart.
Fry the coated Nutella cubes in vegetable oil, or olive oil for a healthier option, until golden brown. Place on a plate lined with paper towel and voila! Your Nutella sandwich nuggets are ready. It’s so yummy and you wouldn’t believe how good they smell, all thanks to that cinnamon. Cravings satisfied!
It’s amazing what you can come up with when you get hungry in the middle of the night and there are no chips or cookies to munch on. Hey, don’t judge. I’m a nursing momma so I’m excused if I wanna stuff myself from time to time–all the time. :p
